Fred and I were the engineering department at Hudson Optics for several years.  I don't remember where he went to work after leaving HPO.  I left HPO shortly after he did.  I believe he was the reason I stayed there as long as I did.  I had tried locating him every few years and it wasn't until today, while searching for a book, A System of Optical Design by Arthur Cox that I came upon the name Fred Abbott.  A quick search brought me to this page.  I must admit that I'm a better person for knowing and working with Fred.  It is difficult to say I have missed you because it wouldn't be true.  I don't miss you because I think of you often and will continue doing that.
